Director & Producer – An Unhealthy Trend In Tollywood?

Published by

The film industry is a strange place to live in. On one side, there is a lot of money and glam sham, and on the other side, there is equally the ugly side. However, opportunities are very important in this field, and one must definitely strive to climb up the ladder as soon as possible. In the process, a lot of people make wrong moves and sometimes take up opportunities that do not fit them. Too many instances in the recent past prove the same. Especially the directors turning producers is turning out to be an unhealthy trend.

With the film Shaakuntalam, Dil Raju scored a big dud at the box office. It is one of the biggest losses he has ever faced in his 25 years of career. Director Gunasekhar invested huge money in the project and then invited Dil Raju to partner with him. In the end, the film ended with a big flop. Gunasekhar, too received criticism for poorly handling the direction.

With Akhil Akkineni’s Agent, Surender Reddy too became a partner in the film’s production. The film is not getting rave reviews now, and it may end as a flop too. Surender also faced bashing from critics for not handling the film up to his skills.

Previously, directors Puri Jagannath and Koratala Siva, too faced similar situations. With Acharya, Siva turned into a partner, but he took a lot of time to make the settlements for the losses incurred. Especially his direction was criticized badly for the film Acharya and so is the case with Puri Jagannath’s Liger.

All these instances prove one point that a technician should confine to his or her strength and not involve in other aspects unnecessarily.
