Back then, to score a hit, either a hero should pick up a ‘faction’ film or he should wear khaki dress. That was the superhit formula of the 90s and the police uniform made many actors like Balakrishna superstars, while the likes of Sai Kumar got a new life with it as a lead actor. However, it looks like the situation has changed quite a lot now.
In recent times, Tollywood has seen a spate of super flops like Ram’s The Warrior, Sudheer Babu’s The Hunt, Naresh’s Ugram and Naga Chaitanya’s Custody which have turned out to be supreme disasters at the box office. All these movies have one thing in common, which is nothing but the police dress. Even the likes of young hero Kiran Abbavaram failed to do miracles when he came up with Meter where he appears as a police. These days, the audience is rejecting the films that have the main leads as police, and that is wondering Tollywood right now.
Of course, police roles are beaten to death by Tollywood in various movies, and we have seen good cops, bad cops, cunning cops and funny cops as well on the screen. Until and unless the premise of the film is quite strong like it was shown in movies like Vikramarkudu and Temper, these police roles are not going to click. Otherwise, even if there is no story, it should be slick and engaging like Raviteja’s Krack movie. Else, police roles have run out of their time already while our writers-directors ran out of stock to write new police stories.
