A mystery thriller which is dark to boot. A talented team that made the groundbreaking indie film ‘Gatham’ (2020). A composer who has uplifted several thrillers (we are talking about Sricharan Pakala and his body of work). Rich making values. All these have come together in bringing out ‘ID’, which has lately been unstoppable at film festivals. In a shining instance, the film has been treated to an award at the recent DadaSaheb Phalke Awards, an honour only two other Telugu films managed to secure (read ‘Balagam’ and ‘Sita Ramam’).
‘ID’ marks the return of ‘Gatham’ director Kiran Reddy Kondamadugula with actors Bhargava Poludasu and Rakesh Galebhe. So far, the film has won 37 awards even before its release. And as many official selections and honorable mentions (31 in total), besides a handful of nominations have made ‘ID’ look like a potential hit. “What if I wake up one day and no one recognizes me,” the director once asked himself and wrote the spooky story.
The makers are also pleased to inform that their film is making its Canada Premiere at the Oakville Festivals of Film and Art soon. If it makes it to the Canadian Screen Awards, it will have got an Oscars equivalent recognition in its kitty. As many as 600 film festival audiences in India and the US have already appreciated the film’s detailing and craft.
Producers Subhash Ravada and Bhargava Poludasu of ChitrOM Entertainments mobilized the best talent and technicians from Telugu cinema and Hollywood to ensure that the execution was impeccable. They onboarded Harsha Pratap and Srujan Yarabolu of S Originals to co-produce the film with.
Bhargava Poludasu of ‘Gatham’ fame will be seen in a character who gets embroiled in extraordinary situations that are atypical of Telugu cinema. As a flawed individual, he comes with unpredictable traits. Actor Rakesh Galebhe said that the characters disturbed him so much that he felt those reel characters don’t have their cousins in real life.
Horacio Martinez, Caterina Piccardo and Chota K Prasad have done the cinematography, production design, and editing, respectively. Sound mixing and DI have been done at Sync Cinema and Annapurna Studios, respectively.
