Whenever other players in the business are making leaps, the companies backed by Reliance have this habit of completely knocking down opponents with their user-friendly plans. When internet prices are surging, they have Jio for free and thus revolutionised the price and usage of the internet in India. Here comes another such punch.
Recently Jio Cinema has stunned all by snatching IPL rights which are usually acquired by Hotstar for a huge price. Not only that, the app had broadcast the cricket tournament for free for everyone. And now, they started buying big-ticket films and streaming them for free. Except for the 30 seconds length advertisements that come for every 10 mins, Jio Cinema app is also doing quite great compared to the popular OTT platforms that Telugu viewers love to watch.
A report is now doing rounds that Jio Cinema is trying to acquire some major Telugu biggies now. While the likes of Amazon, Netflix and Hotstar are ready to offer nearly ₹65-85 crores for some upcoming Telugu biggies, Jio Cinema is quoting much more than that price, and our cash-loving producers are now considering that option. If that happens, surely the OTT market of other players will be crashed as Jio streams the films for free thus attracting a large volume of viewership.
Initially when the talk of Jio Cinema entering the Telugu market popped up, many thought that it is just a joke, but now, as they started to do groundwork to acquire some Telugu biggies, other players in the race are literally shaking. We have to see what happens.
