There are certain trends which don’t look a like a trend when those films are released, but become one after passing sometime. This is because of the observation that content of a similar kind is getting a lot of attention these days. And this happening for a long time if we have to say.
Back then, dubbed films like ‘Manmadha’ are a superhit and especially the way heroine Sindhu Tolani’s character cheats on the hero have become a highlight, and turned the film into a money spinner at the box office.
Later on, films like Kumari 21F, RX100 and most recently DJ Tillu have these roles of ‘bold’ shaded heroines with a dark past and present, and that worked out a big favour at the box office.
And now, similarly bold content is minting money for ‘Baby’ in the Telugu states and that brings us to the talk, ‘whenever the heroine’s role is crooked, dark and bold, the film is going to become a blockbuster’.
However, many other films have heroines showcased in a dark shade, in a bad spotlight and much more, but those didn’t work. If coupled with a terrific storyline, enchanting songs, intense performances and a great marketing campaign, these films are most likely to work. The films we mentioned above were all musical blockbusters first, and that helped them get massive attention.
So, having the role of a heroine in a shady side is fine, but it needs to have these other factors as well for the film to become a cash cow.
