Ace heroine Janhvi Kapoor’s latest OTT release is “Bawaal” which has Varun Dhawan as the main lead and is directed by Dangal movie fame Nitesh Tiwari. The film’s story deals with the point of the hero discovering his lack of compassion and empathy after visiting the World War II holocaust site in Auschwitz, where thousands of Jews were brutally executed by Hitler’s Nazi soldiers. A human rights NGO is right now saying that Bawaal is an outlandish abuse of the Holocaust.
The Simon Wiesenthal Center (SWC), a human rights NGO dedicated to the memory of the victims of the Nazi Holocaust, has now demanded Amazon Prime Video remove Bawaal from the OTT platform as director Nitesh Tiwari used the film as a metaphor for life, rather realizing the fact that the holocaust is an example of man’s greatest evil. Especially the line in the movie, where a philosopher says, ‘Every relationship goes through their Auschwitz, was condemned by the NGO, saying that it is demeaning the lives of 6 million Jews murdered by Hitler’s regime.
Earlier, even film critics and many movie lovers find it tough to digest the insensitive parallel drawn by Nitesh Tiwari between the personal lives of hero-heroine, and World War II. The director actually tried to show that every human being has a Hitler in him in the form of ‘greed’ and their bad deeds and sufferings are compared to that of Auschwitz. Back then Varun Dhawan commented that our movie lovers find fault with whatever new attempt our filmmakers do, however, they love it when Hollywood does. We have to see what Amazon Prime will do now.
