The Kollywood film industry attracted controversies when their acting association sent out a statement initially saying that Tamil actors alone should act in Kollywood movies. However, multiple people associated with the organization later came out to explain that they actually don’t mean that and clarified that it is only for the technicians.
Now, RK Selvamani, the president of the association, stirred another controversy, highlighting the dearth of Tamil titles for locally produced films.
Selvamani mentioned that the recent releases had names, ‘DD Returns,’ ‘LGM,’ ‘Love,’ ‘Terror,’ ‘Dinosaurs,’ and ‘Pizza-2.’ and all of them are in English. He believes that it would be highly beneficial if a resolution were passed to encourage the use of Tamil titles for Tamil films. This advice, if taken, could lead to a positive shift in the industry, according to him.
“It remains puzzling why those who take pride in Tamil culture and language continue to promote English titles for their films. The disconnect between their words and actions is a cause for deep dissatisfaction and anguish among language enthusiasts. In light of this situation, the Tamil Producers’ Council has recently appealed to Chief Minister Stalin, requesting a subsidy from the government for films that proudly bear titles in Tamil,” he said.
