After a long gap yet again, filmmaker and star producer Karan Johar is back to directing a film and his directorial “Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani” featuring Alia Bhatt and Ranvir Singh in the leads has hit cinemas other day. As usual, the Bollywood critic-brigade rated the film with 3 to 4 stars, but the real rating reflects through the film’s Day 1 collections.
Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani is like Karan Johar’s modified version of Bommarillu movie, and the film’s content is glorified with the usual family drama, huge sets for songs, richness all over and costly production design along with glittering costumes.
However, owing to the floods, rains and the general lack of interest, the film took to just ₹11+ crores nett on its Day 1 from the India box office. Though the film team is boasting about the double-digit opener, surely this is an all-time low compared to the way South films are making more than ₹20+ crore openings in the Hindi hinterlands these days.
Routine commercial cinema is not doing well unless the film has huge superstars, like it is happening in the case of Megastar Chiru and Superstar Rajni, and Bollywood needs to realize this very fast. In recent times, films of even big stars like Salman Khan and Akshay are also not working in Bollywood, so it’s time to re-examine the kind of content.
