Celebrated art director Nitin Desai was found dead at his N D Studio in Karjat on Wednesday morning. The police have not yet released further details about the cause of his death, but initial reports suggest that he may have died by suicide.
Nitin Desai was a highly respected and talented art director who had earned accolades and recognition for his outstanding work in Bollywood. He was a four-time National Award winner for Best Art Direction.
He collaborated with renowned directors like Ashutosh Gowarikar, Vidhu Vinod Chopra, and Sanjay Leela Bhansali during his illustrious two-decade-long career for iconic films such as “Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam,” “Devdas,” “Jodha Akbar,” “Lagaan,” “Once Upon a Time in Mumbai,” and “Bajirao Mastani,” among others.
Nitin Desai’s last project as an art director was with Ashutosh Gowarikar on the 2019 film “Panipat.”
Apart from his expertise in art direction, Nitin Desai also explored production and turned producer with the film “Desh Devi Maa Ashapura” in 2003. He also ventured into television production with the immensely popular Marathi serial “Raja Shivchhatrapati.”
He also turned the director for “Hello Jai Hind!” (2011) and “Ajintha” (2012) showcasing his versatility and passion for storytelling.
