An unprecedented scenario has emerged in recent times in South Cinema, where two films aimed for the same release date, and the surprising element is that they also share identical titles. Superstar Rajinikanth’s much-anticipated film, “Jailer,” is set to hit the screens on August 10th, igniting a controversy as a Malayalam film bearing the same title is also slated for release on the same day. But, Malayalam film stepped back, paving the way for Rajinikanth’s film to release first.
While Rajinikanth’s “Jailer” is helmed by the talented director Nelson Dilipkumar, the Malayalam version of “Jailer” is directed by Sakkir Madathil, featuring Dhyan Sreenivasan in the lead role.
The dispute stems from the fact that the director of the Malayalam “Jailer” claims to have registered the title with the Kerala Film Chamber of Commerce back in August 2021, well before the title for Rajinikanth’s starrer was announced. This timeline has become the crux of the conflict, leading to a clash of interests and legal proceedings.
The Malayalam version of “Jailer” promises to be a gripping thriller, with Dhyan Sreenivasan portraying the role of a Jailer on a determined mission to recapture a group of escaped prisoners from a high-security prison.
Finally, the Malayalam film is now getting postponed to August 18th.
