Published by

Search engine giant Google pays tribute to the iconic actress Sridevi on what would have been her 60th birthday with a special Doodle. Her remarkable legacy is a beacon in the history of Indian cinema, breaking barriers for women in the industry. Born on August 13, 1963, in present-day Tamil Nadu, her journey in cinema started at just four years old, and later she effortlessly navigated diverse film industries across India, including Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Bollywood.

Sridevi’s breakthrough came in 1976 with K. Balachander’s “Moondru Mudichu,” propelling her into stardom. Her roles in hits like “Guru” and “Sankarlal” elevated her acclaim alongside her co-stars. She made an indelible mark in Telugu cinema as well, shining in impactful films such as “Padaharella Vayasu,” “Konda Veeti Simham,” and “Vetagadu.”

Her magnetic aura transcended boundaries, capturing Hindi film producers’ attention too. From the energetic “Himmatwala” to poignant “Sadma” and lively “ChaalBaz,” Sridevi carved her space in Bollywood. Remarkably, she took the lead in blockbuster films, challenging norms in a male-centric industry.

After a break, Sridevi returned with the film “English Vinglish” in 2012, solidifying her position as a Bollywood leading lady. Her contributions were recognized with the prestigious Padma Shri award. In 2017, she showcased her talent in the crime thriller “Mom,” earning the National Film Award for Best Actress.

Tragically, Sridevi’s journey was cut short by her untimely death in 2018. Nevertheless, her impact remains, as she continues to inspire generations of actors and cinephiles. On what would have been her 60th birthday, we celebrate Sridevi’s incredible legacy and remember her as a true trailblazer in Indian cinema.

Happy Birthday, Sridevi gaaru!
