For the kind of collections the film is amassing and the way it is being criticized by all the quarters, surely Bholaa Shankar’s fate is sealed differently. However, the film is part of a record as claimed by the Producers Guild and Multiplex Association in the 100+ years of history of Indian cinema.
Last week, we have massive films like Megastar Chiranjeevi’s Bholaa Shankar, Superstar Rajnikanth’s Jailer, Sunny Deol’s Gadar 2 and Akshay Kumar’s Oh My God 2 releasing in theatres along with some other small movies. Apparently, the Producers Guild of India and the Multiplex Association have together announced that it is the highest-grossing ever weekend in the history of Indian cinema from August 11th to 13th. All these movies combined have collected a record-breaking ₹390 crores gross while registering 2.1+ crores footfalls. Surely the role played by all the films, irrespective of their box office status, is not ignorable in this context.
While Bholaa Shankar contributed few crores in this collection, the likes of Rajni’s Jailer and Sunny Deol’s Gadar 2 did massive as those films clocked nearly ₹300+ crores. Even Akshay Kumar’s OMG 2 added another ₹50+ crores gross to this. In the era of OTT and post-covid times where many thought that attracting audiences to theatres will be a tough task, these biggies have surely done the unthinkable.
