Megastar Chiranjeevi’s “Bholaa Shankar” has been met with resounding disappointment at the box office. This film stands as one of the most significant letdowns in recent times. Signs of trouble were evident when it was announced that Chiranjeevi would star in a remake of the 2015 Tamil film “Vedalam,” directed by Meher Ramesh.
The remake aspect was a significant drawback, and the negative discourse around the film’s release was unprecedented. This film and Pawan Kalyan’s BRO also suffered the same. It is the remake of the Tamil hit Vinodaya Sitham.
The failures of both “Bro” and “Bholaa Shankar” have sealed the fate of remakes in the Telugu film industry. The insiders say that Nagarjuna, who has been carefully observing the trend, avoided being a part of a remake.
A few months ago, Nagarjuna was reportedly on the verge of acting in the remake of the Malayalam film Porinju Mariam Jose. But, the project has been called off. Given the outcome of “Bholaa Shankar,” Nagarjuna might be breathing a sigh of relief as he narrowly escaped being associated with yet another remake, thereby avoiding potential backlash from trolls and the widespread negativity.
Very soon, he plans to announce a straight film in Telugu, introducing a new director to the film industry. More details are awaited.
