After clinching the prestigious Miss World title in 2018, Manushi Chhillar from Delhi garnered considerable attention. Following the trend of Indian beauty pageant winners entering the film industry, she ventured into acting. However, despite her much-anticipated debut in Akshay Kumar’s ‘Samrat Prithviraj,’ the film tanked at the box office last year, leaving her shocked.
The former Miss world is also part of upcoming movies such as ‘Bade Miyan Chote Miya’ and ‘The Great Indian Family and Tehran,’ which are part of a 3-film deal offered to her by Yash Raj Films (YRF). Yet, she is still awaiting a breakthrough. Her opportunity arrived with the Telugu movie ‘Operation Valentine,’ starring Varun Tej as the lead. The film is based on real events within the Indian Air Force, highlighting the courage of fighter pilots. Reports suggest that Manushi is hopeful that this film might open doors for her in the southern film industry as well.
Many leading Bollywood actresses, including Priyanka Chopra, Deepika Padukone, Katrina Kaif, and most recently Kiara Advani, began their journeys with smaller films before making a markdown South with one or two movies. They then ascended to prominence in Bollywood. Similarly, Manushi seems to be aiming for a breakthrough in the South before achieving success in Bollywood. The future remains to be seen.
