Superstar Rajinikanth’s last three films, “Petta,” “Darbar,” and “Annaatthe,” have faced disappointing outcomes, with diminishing collection figures for each successive film. “Annaatthe,” also released as “Peddanna” in Telugu, had particularly poor results, not generating the expected revenue and failing to perform well despite minimum box office collections.
While the film’s performance was unfortunate for Rajinikanth, it was a positive situation for Tollywood top producer Dil Raju and Asian Movies head Sunil Narang. Typically, a hero’s next film’s business is influenced by the result of their previous film. Despite the underwhelming response to “Peddanna,” the Telugu theatrical rights for Rajinikanth’s next film, “Jailer,” were sold for Rs. 12 crores.
Jailer turned out to be a big hit and the film managed to recover its investment within the first two days of release and started generating profits soon after. Despite the competition from Megastar Chiranjeevi’s film “Bhola Shankar,” “Jailer” continued to perform exceptionally well, surpassing the gross mark of Rs. 50 crores within a week of its release.
The share of the film’s earnings has already exceeded Rs. 30 crores, and it is expected to reach close to Rs. 50 crore in its full run.
This unexpected success of “Jailer” has affected the collections of “Bhola Shankar,” as the audience’s attention and screens shifted towards the former film. Even though “Bhola Shankar” had stiff competition, the massive response to “Jailer” significantly impacted its collections.
