The theatrical business and other commercial aspects of films largely depend on the track record of our actors. This is why the box office verdict of previous films has a strong bearing on the pre-release biz of the next films. This yardstick applies even to top-tier actors. If a star hero’s previous film ends as a disaster, his market takes a huge beating and impacts his next projects. But, Vijay Devarakonda seems to be an exception to this rule.
It is a known fact that Vijay Devarakonda’s previous offering ‘Liger’ ended as an epic disaster at the box office. After scoring a blockbuster with Geetha Govindham, Vijay bagged a hat-trick of flops. Critics and moviegoers came down heavily on Vijay for his poor script selection. The colossal failure of Liger was supposed to have a huge impact on Vijay’s market. But, his upcoming film Kushi bucked the trend and surprised the trade circles.
As per the latest reports, Kushi did a phenomenal pre-release biz in all territories. Reportedly, the Shiva Nirvana directional was snapped for terrific prices in areas like Andhra and Naizam where it fetched 20 Crores and 15 Crores respectively. In Ceded, it was bagged for 6 Crores and the Overseas rights recouped 7.5 Crores for the producer. Including remaining areas, Kushi did around 52 Crores business from its theatricals.
Considering Vijay’s track record, this is a handsome deal for the makers. Moreover, the buzz on the film has been quite impressive ever since the heartwarming posters and the chartbuster songs struck a chord with the audiences. The trailer offering an emotional rollercoaster ride also received a good response and added to the hype.
Trade circles are anticipating a strong start for Kushi at the box office as the openings are going to be quite good. The presence of Samantha is another reason why the film generated a positive buzz. With aggressive promotions, the hype on the film will increase further before its release.
Vijay Devarakonda has a good chance to redeem himself with Kushi and make a stupendous comeback after back-to-back debacles. The film is slated for release on September 1st.
