Last weekend is a dull and dry Friday for Tollywood at cinemas as no biggies have released in theatres, while small-budgeted projects like Santosh Shobhan’s Prem Kumar and #BiggBoss Sohel’s Mr Pregnant tried to grab attention, but failed to do so. That now sets the eyes of film-loving audiences on the upcoming Friday, and now this looks like an interesting weekend.
This weekend treat will be opened by Dulquer Salman’s dubbed film King Of Kotha on August 24. This is a mass film and has the potential to click if the content is engaging. The next day, we are going to see two Telugu films, ie on Friday (25th) with the first one being Varun Tej’s Gandeevadhari Arjuna which is being hailed for its global-catering content, the second one being Bedurulanka 2012, a concept film featuring Karthikeya. These two films are right now carrying limited buzz but the first day first show talk might generate a lot of attention for them.
And then comes this crazy Kannada film that is being dubbed into Telugu as “Boys Hostel” which is hitting the marquee on August 26th, Saturday. As the trailer promised youthful content, surely this film might do wonders at the box office if all goes well. Then we have the Hindi film “Dream Girl 2” and Kannada movie “Toby” by Raj B Shetty releasing as well on Friday, and they too might click in the urban centres of Telugu states.
And we have Pawan Kalyan’s BRO on Netflix and runaway superhit “Baby” hitting Aha on August 25th. If films in theatres didn’t match up to the expectations, then we have these two films on the OTT as a backup for Telugu audiences. Let’s see what happens.
