During his recent media interaction, Mega Prince Varun Tej asserted that he will never shy away from doing diverse roles and promised to strive hard and deliver his best. His determination and strong conviction received plaudits from all his fans. Unfortunately, his hard work is not translating into box office results. Even though he is giving his cent percent for all characters, his films are completely falling short of trade expectations. They are not even recouping the publicity costs which is quite shocking.
After tasting a huge debacle with Ghani despite his phenomenal transformation, Varun Tej is expected to make a good comeback with Gandeevadhari Arjuna. The Praveen Sattaru directional generated decent buzz at the time of announcement. But, the hype slowly faded out by the time of its release. The racy and slick trailers also couldn’t generate the necessary hype. Usually, Varun’s films get decent openings. But, Gandeevadhari Arjuna had a terrible start at the box office this Friday. The disappointing reviews and discouraging word of mouth further dampened the box office prospects.
Varun Tej will need to reassess his choice of scripts. It would be ideal for him to select stories like Tholi Prema and Fidaa. He should make sure that he opts for commercially viable scripts that can pull in audiences to theatres. His upcoming film Operation Valentine is getting ready for release in December. He will need to deliver a big hit to reinstate his declining market.
Choosing performance-oriented roles and different stories will surely provide a good fillip to an actor’s career. But, box office results have the final say. That’s what Varun should keep in mind while giving nod to directors from now onwards.
