Whenever we open Whatsapp and send messages, we often see the lines ‘This chat is end-to-end encrypted and safe’. But with the screenshots of Rhea Chakraborty chats with a talent manager and Deepika Padukone’s chat with a talent manager about procuring ‘Maal’ has come out, many netizens are worried if WhatsApp is really safe?
This is the talk going on everywhere as to how media folks are able to get snapshots and chat data of various celebrities out. But then, there is a whole new level of technological brilliance and also the legal interference to bring the chats out. While a common man (including media folks) cannot really bring out encrypted WhatsApp chats, investigation agencies like CBI, NIA and NCB are allowed to do so.
These agencies actually clone the phone of these celebs and try to extract WhatsApp data stored in the local server of the phone, back on iCloud and Google Drive. This involves lots of coders, technical experts and forensic professionals. So, WhatsApp is safe for everyone but might act as evidence if investigation agencies want to use the chats against you in Court upon breach of the law.
On the other hand, WhatsApp chats can be produced as evidence in courts as law allows the investigation agencies to do so provided the fact that the electronic evidence (phones in this case) are being used by the perpetrators (or the accused) at the time of their arrest or FIR filing.
