Back to back, three Tamil directors have proved that they could carve out better commercial cinema with senior heroes. First, it is Kamal Haasan’s Vikram, then comes Rajnikanth’s Jailer and now Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan. The films are carved by Lokesh Kanagaraj, Nelson and Atlee respectively. But here is another thing to discuss.
Apart from the racy screenplay, and no-lag moments in these movies, these films have showcased the senior heroes pretty much close to their age. While Kamal played grandad comfortably, even Rajnikanth played close to his age as a family man. In Jawan, SRK appears as both father and son, even the son character gets ready to marry a woman who already has a 10-year-old daughter. This led to a debate about audiences liking if senior heroes play their age on the screen.
That could be acceptable because some senior heroes who romanced 20+ aged heroines in recent times have scored only flops in the recent times. Perhaps that is the reason why audiences are also telling senior heroes to take the message given by Vikram, Jailer and Jawan.
