‘VVS Laxman Comments On Muthiah Muralidharan’

International cricket batsman and our Telugu pride VVS Laxman has heaped praises on legendary off-spinner Muthiah Muralidharan at the 800 movie pre-release event held today at Hyderabad. As Muthiah’s most-awaited biopic ‘800’ hits the screens on 6th October, the team is aggressively promoting the film. Muthiah is the only cricketer in cricket history to claim 800 wickets in International Test Cricket. The biopic will capture the life and times of Muthiah and also his controversies.

Produced by Vivek Rangachari and Movie Train Motion Pictures, Sivalenka Krishna Prasad, the renowned Tollywood producer and head of Sridevi Movies, acquired the All-India theatrical rights for ‘800’.

Madhur Mittal, known for his role in ‘Slumdog Millionaire,’ steps into the shoes of Muralidaran in the film, while Mahima Nambiar portrays Madhimalar Ramamurthy, the cricketer’s wife. Directed by MS Sripathy, the screenplay is co-written by Shehan Karunatilaka, the Booker Prize laureate for 2022. The film’s pre-release event was graced by VVS Laxman.

VVS Laxman, in his speech, emphasized that Muralidaran’s inspiration goes far beyond his cricketing achievements, touching upon his humility and genuine heart. He described Muralidaran as a role model for everyone and expressed his gratitude for their friendship.

Muthiah Muralidaran expressed his gratitude to VVS Laxman, recalling their first encounter in 1998 when they played together in Cuttack, Orissa. Despite being on opposing teams, Muralidaran praised Laxman’s remarkable skills against spin bowling. Their camaraderie extended beyond the cricket field, as they later worked together for Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL. Muralidaran shared a fond memory of Laxman ensuring an inflight feast of biryani during their travels.

Sivalenka Krishna Prasad, the renowned Tollywood producer and head of Sridevi Movies, acquired the All-India theatrical rights for ‘800’ and spoke about his journey with director Sripathy and the film’s development. He acknowledged the challenges faced, including the delay caused by the pandemic, and shared his excitement about joining the project.

Actor Madhur Mittal, who underwent rigorous preparation to emulate Muralidaran’s distinctive style, emphasized the film’s emotional depth beyond cricket. He credited the makeup and direction teams for their dedication in achieving Muralidaran’s look and urged the audience to watch ‘800’ in theaters on October 6th.

The event showcased the deep admiration and respect for Muthiah Muralidaran, both as a cricketing legend and as an inspirational figure in the lives of many.
