Day1: Bhagwant @ 32+ Cr, LEO @ 140 Cr?

The two films that released the other day, Nandamuri Balakrishna’s Bhagwant Kesari and Vijay’s Leo have taken a blockbuster start at the box office on their first day. While Balayya’s film did its best, it is Leo that has hit the ball out of the park by creating an all time record for a Tamil film ever.

With mass pockets and class centres picked up hugely by the evening, Balayya’s Bhagwant Kesari touched a gross of ₹32.33 crore gross as per the official figures revealed by the producers. By night, the shows picked up hugely due to the sentimental second half and the Friday bookings are also quite optimistic. However, in the USA arena, the film is doing a bit slower than expected as the audience expected more of an Akhanda like serious thunder.

Coming to the Leo, this dubbed film did superbly in Telugu states with a gross of nearly ₹18-20 crores on Day 1, while the Tamil version created a global record for a Tamil film. Leo’s collection as per Tamil trade analysts is said to have crossed ₹100 crores gross from Tamil version alone, while the rest of the languages contributed another 40+ crores. A 140+ crores opening for a Tamil movie in all languages together is a phenomenal opening for Vijay and Lokesh Kanagaraj, though the Hindi version hasn’t performed as expected.

With the long weekend and Dasara holidays giving a lot of advantages, we have to see how these films do on Day 2 and at the first weekend.
