Amazon Prime’s PPK: 5 Short Stories By 5 Star Directors

Five top directors from the Tamil film industry came together for a film that was set in and shot during the lockdown. This film is a collection of five Tamil short stories that is set for release on Amazon Prime videos on October 16. The movie’s name is Putham Pudhu Kaalai.

Each segment directed by Suhasini Manirathnam, Sudha Kongara, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Raviv Menon, and Karthik Subbaraj respectively, the film has stories about love, new beginnings, second chances, and a glimmer of hope.

Putham Pudhu Kaalai is entirely shot in lockdown time, but only per the rules of the ‘unlock’ phase. Amazon prime calls it a collection of five heartwarming stories by five favorite storytellers. Director Suhasini Manirathnam directed the story ‘Coffee, Anyone?’, in which she also acted along with Anu Hasan and Shruti Haasan.

Director Sudha Kongara segment is titled Ilamai Idho Idho, which has Urvashi, Kalyani Priyadarshan, Jayaram, and his son Kalidas. Gautham Menon’s short story is ‘Avarun Naanum, with actors Ritu Varma and MS Bhaskar.

Rajiv Menon’s story ‘Reunion’ has Andrea Jeremiah, Lella Samson, and Sikkil Gurucharan, while Karthik Subbaraj’s ‘Miracle has Bobby Simha and Muthukumar.

While this PPK is coming as one of the Amazon originals, it is rumored that Netflix is planning a bigger anthology series title Navarasa bankrolled by star director Mani Rathnam. The project is said to be launching Aravind Swami and Siddharth as directors. Also, the other stories in the collection are said to be directed by Gautam Menon, Bejoy Nambiar, Karthick Naren, KV Anand, Sudha Kongara, and Ponram. Star actors Suriya, Fahadh Faasil, Dulquer Salmaan, and Parvathy are expected to act in the series, while the confirmation is yet to come.
