The urban population in Hyderabad has this ugly habit of not turning up to polling centers to cast their votes, after ranting about poor infrastructure, bad governance all 5-years long. The story is no different this year either as Animal’s advance bookings in Hyderabad seem to be better than the polling trends in the city.
Hyderabad barely had 40% voter turnout as of 3 PM today. But on the other hand, the advance bookings for tomorrow’s theatrical release, Animal, are on rampage mode.
While many parts of Hyderabad, including Yakutpura, Malakpet, Chandrayanagutta, Nampally are yet to cross even 30% polling, the bookings for Animal in PVR, Inox, AMB, and other multiplexes are either fast filling or sold out. The anticipation on Animal is evidently higher than polling as this leads to comment that there will be more crowds at cinema theaters tomorrow than at polling stations today.
There is a popular commotion regarding the polling trends in Hyderabad which says the urbane crowd here is more interested in films and other entertainment avenues than electoral prospects which will dictate their way of life for next 5 years. This is turning to be true if we compare the polling percentage and the advance bookings trend of Animal. This is a sorry tale to tell.
