In the current trend of joint movie promotions, the collaborative promotion of two major films, Animal and ‘Hi Nanna,’ has sparked intriguing discussions. The promotional interview featuring actor Nani and director Sandeep Reddy Vanga for their respective movies has raised thought-provoking questions about the narratives and inspirations behind these cinematic ventures.
Nani, after viewing the Animal teaser, drew a connection to the 1996 film Dharma Chakram where hero Venkatesh as (Rakesh) is an angry young man has strong animosity toward his father Mahendra played by (Girish Karnad). During his interaction with Vanga, the actor gave that as ‘Animal’ trailer also revolves around the complex relationship of a business magnate Balbir Singh played by Anil Kapoor and his son Arjun Singh (Ranbir Kapoor).
Nani reflected on the shifting portrayal of father characters in movies, noting a change from soft portrayals before the 1990s to a transformation following the release of Dharma Chakram. However, his perspective took an unexpected turn after watching the Animal trailer, revealing a departure from the similarities observed in the Dharma Chakram movie.
During an interview with Gulte.com’s Lokesh Bandi, the director Sandeep Reddy Vanga was questioned the same, if he watched films like Dharma Chakram and Kiratakudu which deal with this jilted father-son relationship. To this, Sandeep expressed a different viewpoint, stating that he neither felt the resemblance nor could recall the specific movies in question though he watched them years ago.
