Talk: Enough Of Song Medleys & Folk Songs

Firstly we have this highly appreciated Antyakshari Scene in “Gabbar Singh” and then the mighty conference room sequence in “Ala Vaikuntapurramloo” is a super hit, that many Tollywood movies are trying to emulate the same. Along with them, using vintage folk songs in films has become the new norm. And now, both these phenomena are boring and upsetting the audience.

Taking a medley of songs, we have seen Sreeleela dancing to some popular hits in her opening sequence in the movie “Aadikeshava”. Even in “Extra” movie, there is a scene where Nithin and Sreeleela do a medley together for various superhit songs. Guess what, these two are just examples and there are many such sequences in other movies too.

At the same time, right from Palasa movie’s Naadhi Necklace Golusu to using Pulsar Bandi in Dhamaka, Lingdi Lingdi in Kotabommali PS to using the ‘boothu’ song ‘Na Taalam Teestava’ (popular in recording dances of Andhra) with modified lyrics in Extra, folk and rural songs are also overdone these days.

Telugu audiences are expecting that this trend will be given a full stop soon if their reception towards any of these recent works is to be noted. With every commercial film trying to bank on medley scenes and folk songs, surely the trend is overdone and one has to identify or create something new to garner attention and make sense.
