Usually when mass commercial films are given, our makers churn out an item number for sure, and they call it a special song, which teases the masses and classes alike. Last year when films like Megastar Chiranjeevi’s Waltair Veerayya and Balayya’s Veera Simha Reddy clashed at the box office on Sankranthi eve, their item numbers did a lot of talking. So what about this Pongal clash anyway?
Last year, item songs like Boss Party and Manobhavalu Debbatinnayi became quite chartbusters for their tune, the leading ladies of those songs and other factors. However, though there are four films at the helm this year including Guntur Kaaram, Hanu Man, Saindhav and Naa Saami Ranga, there is no such song in those films. Barring Kurchi Madathapetti song, there is no massy song whose beats will make you tap your feet and push you into a typical festive and exciting mood from these movies. This is the first time, a set of films that are hitting cinemas on Sankranthi eve doesn’t even have an item number.
All said and done, these are the days when content-driven films are working big time on the screen, not the usual jhatkas and thumkas of the item songs that are making films work. So we have to see how each of these Sankranthi starrers are going to prove their mettle.
