Quite interestingly, the makers of Vijay Devarakonda’s “Family Star”, have roped in a terrific and acclaimed cinematographer KU Mohanan aboard to crank the camera. Earlier this popular cameraman carved films like Don and Talaash in Hindi, while Mahesh Babu’s Maharshi is his Telugu debut film. Talking to Gulte.com today, Mohanan revealed some interesting things.
“Yes, usually makers of commercial films try to keep the visuals more vivid and fill it with lots of light. But for ‘Family Star’ we want to keep the visuals very realistic and have used more lights to make sure that every frame looks more realistic. The colour palette and natural visuals add a new beauty to this light-hearted story of a middle class guy” said Mohanan. When quizzed about the exciting prospect for him to pick the film, the talented cinematographer says that it is producer Dil Raju and natural actor Vijay Devarakonda who are responsible for that. “A big production house with whom I’ve worked earlier, and an actor whom I like pretty much are the reasons to pick Family Star. Of course, the fat paycheck too” he laughs, adding that director Parasuram’s vision also impressed him.
On the other hand, Mohanan also added that they have beautifully captured every scene and song in the movie, which would actually find great resonance with the viewers. When asked if Telugu’s local cinematographers should up their game, he gave terrific advice. “Telugu is currently the biggest industry in India, and churning out great films. However, the other films are being regular. If directors come up with different visions and different storytelling patterns, surely cinematographers will create brand new visuals. That change should come” he added.
