This Eid, Bollywood has come up with two big projects, Maidaan and Bade Miyan Chote Miyan. The latter is an action drama which features Akshay Kumar and Tiger Shroff in the lead roles. On the other side, Maidaan is a sports drama featuring Ajay Devgn as the protagonist.
Maidaan was a long-delayed project and finally, it saw the light yesterday. It was directed by Amit Sharma and produced by Boney Kapoor. Priyamani played the female lead in it.
The story of Maidaan is set in the football backdrop. It revolves around football coach Syed Abdul Raheem (Ajay Devgn) who scouts for best football talent across the country after India faces a humiliating defeat against Yugoslavia in the 1952 Olympics. In the process of finding talent, Abdul Raheem faces various challenges. After beating all obstacles, he finally takes his team to the 1962 Olympics and wins a crucial match.
Though the story seems similar to many sports dramas, the screenplay makes Maidaan a compelling watch. There are many goosebump-inducing moments in the film which will engage the audience. Ajay Devgan’s earnest performance also stood as the major advantage of the film. Many people who watched the movie are comparing it to the likes of Chak De India and Lagaan. Thus, it looks like Bollywood delivered a stunning sports drama after a long time.
