Like we have said already, the film “Maidaan” showcases the exceptional hard work of Hyderabadi football coach SA Rahim, who holds the distinction of taking the national football team to the Olympics, after whose demise, the Indian team never qualified for the same, in the last 64 years.
While the hair-raising story shown on screen with Ajay Devgn playing the role of Rahim has fetched rave reviews, box office reception is on the other side.
Though the talk around the movie is fantastic, for unknown reasons, the collections of the film are drastic. Released on Eid day, the 4-day extended weekend hasn’t helped the movie get massive collections as it made only ₹22+ crores nett so far from the Indian Box Office.
Though the film’s reception is good in A-centres, B&C centres are performing very poorly. For the kind of talk around the film, surely trade would have expected a ₹100 crores weekend, but things didn’t happen that way.
Though the flop show of Bade Miyaan Chote Miyaan should give unprecedented advantage to Maidaan, somehow the film is not picking the steam.
With no other biggie around the corner, we have to see if Maidaan will do big this week, though Monday is starting a bit weak if the advance bookings are anything to go by.
