The upcoming pan-Indian film “Kubera,” starring Dhanush and directed by Sekhar Kammula, might face a roadblock before its release. Recently the title glimpse of this film was revealed and while Dhanush portrayed a poor-guy look, the title Kubera is the exact opposite of that. And here is the thing going on, related to the title.
According to reports, a producer named Karmikonda Narendra already registered the title “Kubera” with the Telangana Chamber of Commerce. The other day this producer alleged that though they raked up the same with the Chamber, there was no response to that. Due to that, Narendra will be now knocking on the doors of the Court to use the title “Kubera” for himself. This unexpected copyright claim might not throw a wrench into the production plans of this Kammula film, but surely it would create unwanted debate.
The producers of Dhanush’s “Kubera” will likely need to resolve the copyright issue to avoid legal complications down the line. Reports are coming out that already discussions are happening, but then, many wonder why this so-called producer knocked on Court doors if talks are going on. We have to await further developments to see if “Kubera” retains its title or if the filmmakers are forced to choose an alternative like “Dhanush’s Kubera”.
