Generally, movies get released on Friday to take advantage of the weekend. But these days, we are seeing a few big-budget films opting for Thursday release, to get a day extra advantage ahead of the weekend. Many films that are lined up for release in the next few months are hitting the screens on Thursday.
The next big release in South India is Kamal Haasan-starrer Indian 2. It is hitting the screens on June 13 (Thursday), taking advantage of the Bakrid holiday on June 17 (Monday). It is being reported that Prabhas’s next film Kalki 2898 AD will hit the theatres on June 27. However, there is no long weekend or holiday advantage for this movie.
Allu Arjun’s Pushpa 2 aka Pushpa: The Rule is slated for worldwide release on August 15 (Thursday). It will be taking advantage of the Independence Day weekend.
Nani’s Saripodhaa Sanivaram will be released two weeks after Pushpa 2, on August 29. Even this movie doesn’t have any holiday or long weekend advantage.
Even Jr NTR’s Devara is hitting the screens across the globe on Thursday, on October 10, during the Dasara festive season.
While certain films capitalize on extended weekends, others are choosing to release on Thursdays, regardless of holiday schedules. It appears this trend may soon become a norm within the Indian film industry.
