A day ago, Satya Dev’s “Krishnamma” makers came up with the poster that it collected ₹5+ crores ‘gross’ and all the distributors involved in the release of the movie are commercially safe now. Only last Friday the film has hit cinemas and the shocker is that it has come up on OTT just in 7 days. Well, that’s a true shocker.
Recently when Vijay Devarakonda’s “Family Star” turned up on OTT just in 20 days (hardly 3 weeks window), many wondered why Telugu producers are killing the theatrical market big time. But now, Krishnamma, which happens to be a production venture of Koratala Siva and Co, has truly shocked last night when the film turned up on Amazon Prime Video just within a week of its release. The makers have released a poster highlighting ‘Breakeven Done’.
While every producer will have his own reason to sell the movie to OTT, where they could make quick and huge money from the digital streaming rights, surely if there is no gap between theatrical release and streaming dates, it will be killing theatre markets. And it looks like the closure of single-screen theatres in Telangana is a direct result of these kinds of decisions only.
Had the makers announced that the film would turn up in OTT just a week after release, many would not have gone to theaters.
