Fahadh Faasil, who is slowing turning into a nationwide star sensation, has recently revealed that he has been diagnosed with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) at an age of 41.
The actor revealed this information at the inauguration of the Peace Valley School in Ernakulam District, Kerala. As the name suggests, ADHD dysregulates the levels of attention, impulsivity and hyperactivity in individuals, adversely affecting their daily life and work.
Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), also known as ADD (Attention Deficit Disorder), falls under the category of Neurodivergent behavioural disorders. Neurodivergence refers to a set of brain functions considered different from “average” or “typical” behaviours. Other neurodivergent conditions include autism, dyslexia and obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD). These disorders do not have any bearing on a person’s intelligence levels. It is also important to note that these disorders can never be cured. They can only be effectively managed through a combination of therapy, lifestyle changes and medications. While ADHD is usually diagnosed at a childhood stage, some people also find out they have ADHD when they are adults, like Fahadh.
Fahadh’s openness sheds light on the challenges adults face with late diagnoses and the societal misunderstandings around ADHD.
