Since yesterday evening, there have been a lot of not-so-wild speculations about the alleged postponement of Pushpa Part 2: The Rule.
There has been no official announcement from the film’s banner Mythri Movie Makers, but staying mum on the release issue is usually a sign of makers indirectly agreeing to the rumours.
Filmmakers in other parts of the country are also moving their release dates to August 15, only adding fuel to the fire. With Vikram’s Thangalaan struggling to find a release date, there is a strong possibility that the film might be release on August 15. Sources suggest that Kollywood distributors were informed of this move overnight. The producers will make a call after discussions with director Pa Ranjith. Akshay Kumar’s Khel Khel Mein is also vying for the coveted Independence Day release date.
Reliable sources suggest that Sukumar informed his team recently that it is impossible to release the film on August 15. Reasons for this unfortunate move include the necessity for reshoots of some scenes, delays in getting Fahadh Faasil’s dates, slow progress of schedules, and dissatisfaction with the VFX work.
Another significant issue is the change of editor, with responsibilities shifting from Karthika Srinivas to Navin Nooli. Even if the team wraps shooting, they would require a little more than a month’s worth of time for promotions.
With just sixty days left, it has become nearly impossible to complete everything, making it almost certain that Pushpa 2 will be postponed. Although Sukumar and Allu Arjun are reluctant to miss the Independence Day release window, it looks like they have no other option.
While the makers had entered into agreements with multiplex chains and theatres in Hindi, similarly, the IMAX screens were also slotted for Pushpa 2’s Aug 15th release. Any delay in Pushpa 2 is going to affect the agreements and understandings with these cinemas, both in the US and domestically.
If Pushpa 2 misses the Aug 15th release, Nani’s Saripodhaa Sanivaram which is aiming for the Aug 29th release may be preponed to Aug 15th and Pushpa 2 can fill the Aug 29th date. This is one option. But the postponement for just 15 days will give enough time to Sukumar to complete pending works in million dollar question. Moving to October is another option. With Devara preponing their release September 27, there will be no issue if Pushpa: The Rule comes out for Dasara on October 10.
It remains to be seen what decision the makers will finally take, but by all accounts, it is unfortunate that Pushpa is losing its August 15 release date. But all is not lost. Two lyrical videos of the film have already been unveiled, and Devi Sri Prasad’s tunes are slowly gaining popularity. Expectations soared after Bunny’s getup in the teaser, and there is intense discussion about Pushpa 2 all over the country. Mythri Movie Makers are already overwhelmed with pre-release business offers.
