Rs 400 Crore Budget For Prabhas Film?

Published by

At a time Covid-19 pandemic has hit the film budgets of several big-ticket films, the makers of Prabhas’ next are in no mood to cut down the budgets. In fact, the makers are all set to spend a whopping Rs 400 crore on his next to be directed by Om Raut. Titled as Adipurush, the film will have Saif Ali Khan as a baddie. After Baahubali, Adipurush is going to be Prabhas biggest film in terms of budget. It is learnt that Rs 350 crore to Rs 400 crore would be spent only shooting and production. This film is going to be the modern-day retelling of Ramayana and Prabhas will be seen as Rama.

Buzz is that Kiara Advani is likely to be cast as Sita in this mythological 3D film that will be shot in Hindi and Telugu and dubbed in Tamil, Malayalam and Kannada. The film is being bankrolled by Bhushan Kumar who is the producer of Saaho, Radhe Shyam and Tanhaji. Om Raut wants Adipurush to be a visual spectacle after his previous film Tanhaji with Ajay Devgn and Saif Ali Khan.

After magnum opus Baahubali, Prabhas has emerged as a Pan-Indian star. The business horizon of his films have expanded like never before. From Hindi markets to overseas markets, Prabhas films have registered new highs in BO collections. Even Saaho that got mixed reviews has performed well in the Hindi-belt cementing Prabhas’ stardom. This is the reason behind producers splurging on Prabhas films. Meanwhile, Prabhas is teaming up with Amitabh Bachchan and Deepika Padukone for Nag Ashwin’s directorial. This is also going to have a gigantic budget. Even Prabhas’ ongoing film Radhe Shyam, a love story, which has Pooja Hegde as female lead, is being made on a big budget given its multi-lingual release and the film’s shoot is currently going on in Italy.

Having said this, certainly, the risk factor need not be mitigated. The Covid-19 crisis and the impact on the theatrical revenue is yet to be ascertained. It needs to be seen how far the audience would come forward to watch the films on big screen. The rise of OTT audiences is also concerning.
