Tollywood Breathing Freely Again In AP, Finally

The last five years have been horrendous for the Telugu film industry in terms of theatrical returns and government cooperation for the same in Andhra Pradesh. Strict measures were put in place to cap the ticket prices in the state and then, acquiring additional hikes required a stressful process of having to queue up in front of the CM’s office, only to get paltry hikes of Rs 40 and Rs 50 even for mega-budget films.

The situation didn’t get much better even after the likes of Chiranjeevi, Mahesh Babu, Prabhas, Rajamouli, and others went to meet Jagan. The last Telugu biggie to release in Jagan’s tenure was Guntur Kaaram which had a small hike of Rs 40.

But with the onset of the TDP+ government in Andhra Pradesh, things are finally getting back to normal for Tollywood. This can clearly be seen in the case of Kalki itself.

Kalki had already been permitted 5 shows per day along with the additional hikes of Rs 125 for multiples and Rs 75 for single screens. More importantly, for the stakeholders, this came without much of a hassle and without the need to station outside the CMO for hours.

In a new update, today, a day before the film’s release, the AP government reportedly permitted an additional sixth show for the film which could further help the box office prospects.

If this is going to be precedent for all the big event films like Devara, Pushpa 2, and others that are arriving later this year, then Tollywood would well and truly be back in its glorious days in AP.

Having a friendly CM like Chandrababu and film-oriented Pawan Kalyan as the deputy CM, things could only get better and better for the film industry starting now. It appears to be that Tollywood is back to breathing freely again in AP for the first time after countless hassles over the last 5 years.
