The Flop Story Of Bollywood’s Remake Spree

Published by

The South cinema has been delivering the biggest blockbusters like Kalki 2898 AD, KGF, and Pushpa while Bollywood slowed down from big hits to scoring one big hit with Pathaan. Bollywood filmmakers focused on remaking South and Gujarati films more than ever after the pandemic and let us see how poorly they all worked.

There were more than 20 remakes since the pandemic with 90 percent of them turning out to be flops. The released films since the pandemic were Bachchan Paandey, Bad Boy, Chatrapathi, Drishyam 2, Farrey, Gumraah, HIT, Jersey, Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan, Laal Singh Chaddha, Mili, Nikamma, Selfiee, Shaitaan, Shehzada, Tadap, Thank God, and Vikram Vedha.

Surprisingly, there are 10 more films lined up, a few in the making and others gearing up for release. Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar who has the most releases in a year also had most of them becoming flops. The actor has come up with yet another remake, Sarfira.

Akshay Kumar’s Sarfira is the official remake of Soorarai Pottru (Akasame Nee Haddura in Telugu) directed by Sudha Kongara. The movie opened badly with around just 100 tickets sold in Hyderabad on the first day.

Well, it is high time that the filmmakers in Bollywood come up with original content rather than just depending on remaking the hit movies.
