Alia Bhatt has started her career in the industry with the role of Shanaya, absolutely stealing our hearts with the power-packed, energy driven performance. She then went on to break the stereotypes and her image of being the “it-girl” with her emotionally driven role in Highway. Alia Bhatt has since then taken up many challenging roles without giving any opportunity for the audience to box her up in one category. Her movies after Student of the Year were stimulating and widely different. She has till date done justice to all the characters she has played, making the audience fall completely in awe with her performances in all her movies. Here are just a few of her amazing head-turning roles.
Veera – Highway
Alia Bhatt portrays a role of a young girl Veera in the movie who always fantasizes about running away from home. Any person who hadn’t known Alia wouldn’t even believe that this is just her second movie. Alia with this movie speaks on behalf of million girls who have been victims of child abuse. She feels understood and happy when she is abducted and forms a connection with her abductor, played by Randeep Hooda. The scene where she confronts her abuser leaves goose bumps to whoever is watching the movie. The actor’s performance in the movie not just leaves us thinking about what a great performance it is, but connects with the audience.
Sehmat – Raazi
Alia Bhatt plays the role of Sehmat, who was a young girl, sent to Pakistan in 1971 while there was an incoming war between India and Pakistan. The movie completely revolves around Alia’s devotion towards her nation and how she has to compromise in any conflicting circumstances. Alia played the role of Sehmat who was trained and sent to spy as a wife of a Pakistani solider. Sehmat had given her heart and soul for her nation and lost her husband in one such battle. The emotions that Sehmat portrays show how beautifully Alia has done justice to this role. Alia Bhatt portrayed a role that would leave us all cherishing her performance as one of the powerful performances through the Bollywood history.
Bauria – Udta Punjab
Alia Bhatt plays a role of an immigrant worker from Bihar in Udta Punjab. Bauria came to Punjab as an immigrant worker as her dreams of playing national level hockey for India are shattered. Alia’s character in the movie is seen not even sharing her name to portray how million other immigrant workers go unnoticed, she doesn’t share her name till the ending of the movie. She works for a local landlord who uses his agricultural business as a front for his drug-peddling. The pain, physical and emotional abuse that Bauria goes through the movie as she is abducted shows what the laborers go through. Alia Bhatt has done complete justice to her performance as she shows all the emotions and lives as the character.
Kaira – Dear Zindagi
Alia Bhatt plays the role of Kaira, very relatable to the present generation. She beautifully shows how confused we can get while taking decisions when our heart and minds are at constant war with each other. The role she has played is still relatable, 4 years later and shows how important therapy is for inner-conflicts we face as a generation. Kaira allows us to connect with our inner selves as she slowly opens up with her therapist. With the help of her therapist Dr. Jug, played by Shah Rukh Khan, she understands her feelings and tries mending her broken relationships with people around her, all the while emphasizing on how important self-love and self-acceptance is. This movie made us adore Alia Bhatt even more than before.
Ananya – 2 states
The story adapted by Chetan Bhagat’s book, 2 states was already a hit amongst people who read it. Alia Bhatt’s role as Ananya just connected us more with the book and help us picture what Ananya was actually like. Ananya coming from a Tamil Hindu Brahmin family falls in love with Krish, a proper Punjabi boy, played by Arjun Kapoor. The unapologetic self of Ananya who stands by what she believes and doesn’t allow her parents to be disrespected makes us fall in love further with the character. Alia Bhatt has once again done complete justice to her role of Ananya.
We wish Alia Bhatt the best for all her future endeavors and hope that she brings us further more such awe-inspiring performances.
