Nagarjuna Akkineni attended the International Film Festival of India in Goa and participated in several panel discussions. During these interactions, Nagarjuna opened up about many things, from his career to his family. He also shockingly revealed a time when his father, ANR, had attempted suicide.
Nagarjuna claimed that his father had once tried to take his own life because people used to mock him for his ‘feminine’ mannerisms.
“My father started playing women’s roles on stage, and people mocked him for his feminine traits. He became very disappointed and attempted suicide. He went to Marina Beach, where he said he wanted to end his life because of all the mockery and laughter. He told me that he went waist-deep into the seawater, but then something inside him told him not to do it, and he pulled himself back,” Nagarjuna said.
Nagarjuna also revealed that someone had told ANR that smoking cigars would make his voice rough. At the same time, ANR used to go to the beach early in the morning and scream at the ocean for 5-10 minutes to make his voice hoarse.
ANR breathed his last on 22 January 2014, due to stomach cancer.
