Reality show Kaun Banega Crorepati began its new season, KBC 12, on September 29 and last weekend, the show landed in a trouble over a question. An FIR was filed against KBC and its host Superstar Amitabh Bachchan in Lucknow.
The television game show which is infotainment for viewers with Big B’s interesting and engaging conversations landed in a trouble after he asked a question related to Manusmirti in the Karamveer episode, which had social activist Bezwada Wilson and actor Anoop Soni as guests.
For the Rs 6,40,000 prize money, the question was: On 25 December 1927, Dr. BR Ambedkar and his followers burned copies of which scripture? The options given were a) Vishnu Purana, b) Bhagavad Gita, c) Rigdev, and d) Manusmriti.
After answering the question, Amitabh Bachchan also said that “In 1927, Dr. BR Ambedkar condemned the ancient Hindu text Manusmriti to ideologically justify caste discrimination and untouchability and he also burned copies of it.”
This question raised objection from the netizens and a few of them accused the quizzing show of running the “Leftists propaganda”, while others blamed it for “hurting Hindu sentiments”.
Filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri also shared a clip from the KBC show on Twitter and wrote, “KBC has been hijacked by Commies. Innocent kids, learn this is how culture wars are win. It’s called coding.”
Another Twitter user wrote, “What the hell is this @SrBachchan ji?? If you dont love Mumbai then ask a question on some other dharma and then see the magic and diwali outside your house!! Each and everyone here is just a paid bot bc hinduism ki kisi ko padi hi nai hai! Shameless!”
Some other Twitter users also said that they will “boycott KBC 12”.
