Pushpa 2 created havoc in terms of collections on the release day. However, the unfortunate incident at Sandhya Theatre will remain a black mark. The death of a woman due to a stampede has stirred a discussion about whether benefit shows should be permitted in the state. Interestingly, Telangana cinematography minister Komatireddy Venkatreddy stated they won’t permit benefit shows going forward.
This will greatly impact the upcoming Sankranthi releases. In particular, a film like Gamechanger will suffer in the long run. The film was made on a big budget and mounted on a grand scale. With multiple postponements already, huge stakes are at risk for the film. The team might already be planning to bring in special shows, early morning shows and paid premieres with hiked ticket prices.
But, if the government is considering not granting permission for the special shows, it will kill the film’s buzz by half. Films like Balakrishna’s Daku Maharaj and Venkatesh’s Sankranthi ki Vastunnam are also hitting the screens during Sankranthi. Venkatesh’s film is a family drama, so it may not require additional shows.
But, Balakrishna’s film is a mass action drama, carrying a big buzz. The movie also deserves some additional shows to cash the craze surrounding the film. Even if the government of Andhra Pradesh allow the special shows, it is equally important to have them in Telangana.
With the current situation looking bleak, we need to wait a little more time before witnessing the consequences of having no more benefit shows in Telangana.
So, the Pushpa effect will directly land on the Sankranthi releases.
