2024 proved to be a year of highs and lows for Tollywood, with numerous films making waves both positively and negatively. From surprise hits to unexpected flops, the industry witnessed a mix of performances across genres and star power.
January
During Sankranthi, HanuMan created a storm at the box office. The film dominated the biggie, Guntur Kaaram which was released with high expectations. Venkatesh also disappointed with Saindhav while Nagarjuna also scored a decent success with Na Saami Ranga. Sarkaru Naukari, Double Engine, Ram, Premalo are other films which failed to shine.
February
Suhas starrer Ambajipeta Marriage Band was released in February and did not impress the audiences. The film had some spark but it did not strike the right chord. Yatra 2 also scored a failure unexpectedly. Ravi Teja’s Eagle did not meet success but Ooru Peru Bhairava Kona is a relief. Siddharth Roy failed to woo the audiences and Sundaram Master, starring Viva Harsha also disappointed. February is a big disaster for the movie lovers.
March
Bhootaddam Bhaskar which was released in thriller genre failed. Vennela Kishore’s Chari 111 is also a big disappointment. Varun Tej’s Operation Valentine could not bring enough recognition. Gopichand’s Bhimaa also failed to catch the mass pulse. Vishwaksen’s Gaami is drew some appreciation and Razakar did not do its best. Om Bheem Bush ended as an average film but Tillu Square which was released towards the end of the year opened to flying colours.
April
Vijay Deverakonda scored a flop with The Family Star. Geethanjali Malli Vachindi is a shocker at the box office. Bharata Natyam, Sriranga Neetullu, Tenent, Market Mahalakshmi, Teppa Samudram and others are also failures at the box office. April which is usually considered to be a best season for movie outings brought in big disappointment.
May
Allari Naresh faced a misfire with Ah Okkati Adakku and Suhas failed with Prasanna Vadanam again. Satyadev’s Krishnamma, Nara Rohith’s Pratinidhi 2 opened to big expectations but failed big time. Raju Yadav, Love Me If You Dare and Anand Deverakonda’s Gam Gam Ganesh also ended up as flops. Vishwaksen’s Gangs of Godavari could not pull in decent profits.
June
Sharwanand’s Maname did not meet the desired result at the box office. Kajal’s Satyabhama, Payal’s Rakshana also carried good buzz pre-release but failed post the release. Sudheer Babu’s Haromhara struggled to impress the audiences. Music Shop Murthy is an average film while June witnessed the best in the form of Kalki 2898 AD.
July
Navdeep’s comeback film Love Mouli did not do well at the box office. Peka Medalu opened to decent compliments but it did not win big money at the box office. Priyadarshi’s Darling, The Birthday Boy failed at the box office. Operation Ravan, Purushottamudu starring Raj Tarun are disasters again. Kalki continued its dominance in July, leaving no space for other films to shine.
August
Allu Sirish’s Buddy faced a disappointment in August. Shivam Bhaje had an interesting point but it was weakly presented. Director Vijay Bhaskar’s son’s debut Usha Parinayam is a flop. But, the surprise hit is Committee Kurrollu. And then, Aay also became a big hit. Mr Bachchan, Double iSmart, and Maruthi Nagar Subrahmanyam failed big time. Nani’s Saripodha Sanivaram is a big hit this month.
September
35 – Chinna Katha Kadu performed well at the box office. Raj Tarun’s Bhale Unnade did not do well. Mathu Vadalara 2 did well because of Satya’s presence and performance. Devara: Part 1 was released towards the end of the month and grossed huge at the box office. The film collected more than 500 Cr rupees gross.
October
Sree Vishnu’s Swag and Sudheer Babu’s Ma Nanna Superhero were released in October. Both the films failed to yield good results at the box office. Gopichand’s Vishwam is a big disaster. Sreenu Vaitla directed the movie. Laggam, and Narudi Bratuku Natana received critical acclaim. Lucky Baskhar is a big hit and then Ka also made good money at the box office. The end of October is pretty good for the box office.
November
Nikhil’s much-delayed film Appudo Ippudo Yeppudo is a disaster. Varun Tej’s Matka is a washout at the box office. Ashok Galla’s Devaki Nandana Vasudeva is also a flop. Vishwaksen’s Mechanic Rocky also resulted in disappointment. Satyadev failed again with Zebra. Roti Kapada Romance also failed in wooing the viewers.
December
The entire month is on the name of Pushpa 2. The film was released on the 4th of this month. The movie is inching towards 1800 Cr rupees at the box office. Allari Naresh’s Bachhala Malli, Srikakulam Sherlock Holmes, Drinker Sai offered unengaging content to the viewers. On the whole, Pushpa 2 is also a colossal blockbuster.
