Shivaji’s Biopic: Can It Repeat Chhaava’s Magic?

After a long wait for a hit, Bollywood bounced back hard last week with the recent release, Chhaava. Starring Vicky Kaushal and Rashmika Mandanna in the lead roles, Chhaava is having a sensation run at the box office. The fact of it being the biopic of Chhatrapati Shambaji Maharaj helped the film gain phenomenal collections in North India, especially in a huge market like Maharashtra.

Given the success of Chhavaa, Bollywood is now coming up with the biopic of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. Titled Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, this movie will feature Rishab Shetty in the lead role. The first look poster was released today on the occasion of Shivaji Maharaj Jayanthi. As the Chhaava wave is still trending, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s announcement built a lot of hype within Bollywood circles and audiences. So, it has to be seen if it can replicate the magic of Chhaava at the box office.

There have been many movies made on the life of Shivaji Maharaj in the past but not on a pan-India scale. This time, director Sandeep Singh is determined to make it on a huge scale. Getting Rishab Shetty on board is a good move as the actor has pan-India fame, thanks to the success of Kantara. By the time of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s release, Kantara’s prequel will also be released, which can further expand Rishab’s stardom, helping this movie at the time of its release.

The shooting of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj will begin soon and the film will hit the screens on January 21, 2027. More details will be announced in the coming days.
