Court is one of the most successful films in recent times. The film has not only recovered the investment already but is on its way to becoming the best among all produced by Natural Star Nani. Usually, courtroom dramas are popular in Malayalam, but very rare to find in Telugu cinema, and the reception is not usually great. But, Court ticked all the boxes correct in breaking the stereotypes of how the courtroom dramas are made.
For instance, there is a lot of discussions against Pawan Kalyan’s Vakeel Saab on social media now. Many of the audiences and the netizens on social media are comparing both Vakeel Saab as well as Court. While Court is an original film, Vakeel Saab is a remake.
Star Power Overshadows Vakeel Saab Soul:
Vakeel Saab is the remake of Bollywood hit Pink, which has created a sensation in corut-room dramas. The gripping and engrossing tale has been presented without any added commercial elements. The film was remade in Tamil and opened to a hit talk too. Even Vakeel Saab is also hailed as a successful film, there are too many complaints against it. Many argue that the makers of Vakeel Saab added an unnecessary flash back track in it, with irrelevant hyped action sequences, especially the metro fight. Since it is a star-driven film, the team has made changes to suit Pawan’s image. But, in the process, their focus on the film’s essence took a back seat, resulting in missing out on the impact that Pink created when the audiences came out of the theatres. The fans thoroughly enjoyed Pink but for all other moviegoers, it is an unfaithful and unnecessary remake of Pink.
What’s With Court?
Now, when it comes to Court, what works in the case of the movie is the conviction with which they conversed with the audiences directly. Team Court wanted to question the sections of the POCSO case and its relevance in the context of a similar age group people involving in it. Not just that, the film talks about other themes as subplots but everything is presented by not missing out the film’s soul. Court has a story in the right place and it keeps the audiences hooked completely. Apart from that, the court-room drama is written in such a gripping manner that people wanted to see it more rather than hoping to meet an end. From performances to the execution, there is honesty in the storytelling without any forced sequences.
What sets Court apart from Vakeel Saab in not commercializing the product. Court is also a commercial in a sense but it banked more on the storytelling, resulting in a big success today. For a film like Vakeel Saab, although, it is a star-driven film, there is a scope for honest story-telling and only when stars take up such subjects, the impact could get amplified into multiple folds. Vakeel Saab clearly missed out on that point and today, that is the reason why people hail Court, in comparison to Vakeel Saab.
Telugu cinema has witnessed many court-room dramas prior to Court but this impactful film will now open doors to many in experimenting films in the same genre. All the films that have been released so far focused more on comedy than being serious to the genre. But, hope Court rekindles the genre with enriched storytelling in the coming days.
