Music director Thaman is always ready to experiment or go to any extent to deliver a blockbuster audio album for the movies he works on. Interestingly, he recently stated that he will recompose the songs for Prabhas’ Raja Saab since the initial compositions have not been shot yet. It is a smart move from Thaman to ensure freshness in the audio album, but there is another side to it, too.
Recently, Thaman said, “When audio labels invest ₹30-40 crores in a film, I believe it’s my responsibility as a music composer to deliver my best. Moreover, since it’s #Prabhas’ film, we have to aim for something on a much bigger scale. We composed songs for Raja Saab a while ago. But since they had not been shot yet, I felt those tunes had lost their freshness. So, we decided to scrap them and are now re-composing the songs.”
Recomposing songs when movies are delayed for months or years is probably a smart move. It will ensure freshness of the album as Thaman said and it also will sustain the excitement of the project. There is no harm in working for better quality and output until the last minute, and oftentimes, the makers do not focus enough on the audio albums despite the songs being the face of the movie.
However, it also involves a cost. The producers already spend a bomb in getting an audio album right. The composer must have invested time and money into the making of it. The director must have approved the tunes already too. There is also an opinion that the songs will never lose their freshness if attempted in the right manner. If the audiences are still listening to some old songs even today, it definitely mean that they have been composed better. With time, good songs will attract more listeners and there is nothing like lack of freshness, as such.
Re-Attempting a song might be justified but scrapping an album and replacing it with another one does not ensure a success. However, Thaman is most experienced in this case and he must have done this with a strategy. At the end of the day, the product must entertain the audiences, no matter what.
Starring Prabhas, Niddhi Agerwal and Malvika Mohanan in the lead roles, Raja Saab is directed by Maruthi. The team is yet to announce the release date.
