Vijay, Rana, Nidhhi & 25 Others Booked For Promoting Betting Apps

In a massive crackdown, the Miyapur police in Hyderabad booked popular Telugu film stars Vijay Deverakonda, Rana Daggubati, Prakash Raj, Nidhhi Agerwal, Manchu Lakshmi, and 25 other film stars and social media influencers for illegal betting app promotions. FIRs have been reportedly filed against the above-mentioned celebrities, including Ananya Nagalla and Pranitha.

Popular film and TV artistes Siri Hanumanthu, Sreemukhi, Vamsi Soundarya Rajan, Vasantha Krishna, Shobha Shetty, Amrutha Choudhary, Nayini Pavani, Neha Pathan, Pandu, Padmavati, and Imran Khan are reportedly among the celebrities who have been facing legal action. Popular betting apps and websites such as JungleeRumny, A23, Yolo247, FairPlay, JeetWin among several others.l have been facing legal trouble for alleged money laundering, income tax evasion, and other economic offences.

The crackdown on Tollywood stars and social media influencers for illegally promoting betting apps began following an online campaign by the TGRTC MD VC Sajjanar. The senior IPS officer has been urging the youths of the Telugu states to not fall into the trap of betting apps and online betting that resulted in the tragic loss of lives of hundreds of youths and middle-class people.

Earlier this week, the Punjagutta police in Hyderabad booked cases against Vishnupriya Bhimineni, Harsha Sai, anchor and YSRCP leader Shyamala, Rithu Chowdhary, Bandaru Sheshayani, Surekha Vani’s daughter Supritha, and others for allegedly promoting online betting apps. The cases were booked under sections 318 (4) of Bharat Nyaya Sanhita, 3, 3 (A), and 4 of the Telangana Gaming Act and 66D of the IT Act 2008. The cases were filed following a complaint filed by social activist Vinay Vangala.
