Telangana Women’s Commission Issues ‘Strict Warning’ To Tollywood

Published by

The obscenity in the films sometimes crosses the line, but there is no organization that monitors or controls this trend in the movie industry. However, the Telangana Women’s Commission is taking the initiative to chase the filmmakers who showcase women in a demeaning manner in their films. In this context, the state women’s commission issued a warning.

In the recent past, songs like Dabbidi Dibbidi, Adhi Dha Surprise and a couple of others attracted criticism for objectifying women. The commission also received several complaints in this regard. Without taking any names, the commission warned the filmmakers that legal action will be taken if the trend is not discontinued.

“The Telangana State Women’s Commission has recently received several complaints that the dance steps used in some film songs are obscene and demeaning to women. The Commission has responded seriously to this issue. Since cinema is a powerful medium that has an impact on society, elements that insult or show women indecently in it are a cause for serious concern,” the statement read.

The press release also states, “In this context, the Women’s Commission warns film directors, producers, choreographers and related groups to act responsibly. Obscene and derogatory dance steps that show women should be stopped immediately. If this warning is not heeded, we are ready to take strict action under the relevant laws. The film industry has a moral responsibility to provide positive messages to the society and protect the dignity of women.”

“Keeping in mind the impact of showing films on youth and children, there is a need for the film industry to exercise self-regulation. People and social organizations can express their views on this issue to the Women’s Commission. We will continue to closely monitor this matter and take further necessary steps,” revealed the chairperson of the commission.

Earlier, the commission also reacted harshly against astrologer Venu Swamy when he made derogatory comments against Sobhita Dhulipala and Naga Chaitanya.
