A Few Of His Movies Disappoint, But He Doesn’t

It’s been nearly 7 years since hero Suriya delivered a solid blockbuster. His last clear hit was the ultra mass action entertainer ‘Singam 2’. Since then, Suriya acted in several path-breaking movies such as the horror thriller Masss, children’s film Pasanga 2, mass action drama Singam 3, sci-fi thriller 24, heist comedy Gang, a political drama NGK and the last released action thriller, Bandobast.

Unfortunately, none of the above movies were successful at the box office. However, Suriya never failed as an actor and entertainer. His efforts to offer a variety of entertainment was always appreciated. His loyal fans, even though upset with Suriya not setting the box office on fire over the years, have pinned high hopes on the semi-biopic, Aakaasam Nee Haddhu Ra (Soorarai Pottru in Tamil).

Aakaasam Nee Haddhu Ra skipped its theatrical release due to the lockdown and premiered directly on Amazon Prime Video last night. The reviews are out and the film has passed with flying colours. Both critics and fans have given a collective thumbs up to the film. Trade circles opine that the film would have been a solid money-spinner at the box office had it released in cinemas.

And coming to Suriya, the power-packed performer has once again lived up to his reputation of being one of the best actors in the country. Suriya delivered a career-defining performance in the role of Maha, loosely based on Air Deccan chief Captain Gopinath. Fans and critics couldn’t rave about Suriya’s spirited performance enough.

Suriya portrayed romance, aspirations, passion, helplessness, angst and resilience in a realistic and impactful manner and could connect with the audience very deeply. Aakaasam Nee Haddhu Ra is about a common man’s dream to touch the sky and Suriya has indeed flown high, quite literally, with his memorable performance which will be remembered for a long time.
