Tollywood producers and distributors are facing a tough phase right now because of the Coronavirus pandemic. With theatres remained shut down, it is a big blow for the distributors. The producers can also not convince distributors to release the new movies amidst the new rules about the limited occupancy. In this scenario, the trade experts observed that the film business would not be the same, at least for the next one to two years. There will be changes only regarding the theatrical business, but all the other film business modes will see no change.
Many big budgeted flicks witnessed a postponement, and there is still no clarity on the release. The producers will opt for biggies’ theatrical release only when the occupancy in the theatres exceeds 75 percent. At the same time, the distributors are disinterested in taking up new projects. Many distributors who have already given advances from some big films are not ready now to shed out hefty prices for the theatrical rights. Corona pandemic will have a huge impact on the regional theatrical business.
Keeping the regional scenario aside, it will be tough for the producers to release films at the pan-India level. Until the film’s lead has a market outside Telugu states, the pan-India release is next to impossible for all other movies. With the news of the second wave of Coronavirus doing rounds in the media, everything will not be the same for the next two years.
